There were calls for the New York Times and other media outlets to be charged with treason after revealing the Bush Administration was listening in on our phone calls without warrants, snooping into financial records, holding prisoners in secret and torturing them. Even the dumbest terrorists already knew they were being spied upon, because George W. Bush pretty much said that's what we are going to do.

So what should be done to those who put plans to build an atomic bomb on the Internet? Shouldn't the Republican congressmen who overrode objections from our intelligence officials to post these plans be subjected to treason charges? What they did was far, far worse than anything the media did.

Posting detailed plans for how to build a bomb -- in Arabic, no less -- may be the most stupid move ever. These Republican members of congress wanted the material posted to boost the political case for the war. They didn't care that the documents hadn't been vetted yet. How stupid is it to post documents that you don't know what is in them?

Charge then with treason.
