This has nothing to do with "johns" or Eliot Spitzer. It's from a long-time Republican consultant who has some serious issues with John McCain:

John McCain's bimbo eruption?

For those of you wondering why, against all odds, Mike Huckabee was staying in the presidential race, maybe this is the reason.

So McCain supposedly had the hots for a blond lobbyist back in 2000. The story is a bit thin on the sex side, but it seems like Mr. Ethics was doing her telecom clients some big favors.

Pat Buchanan is just saying on MSNBC that he first heard rumors of this story back in December, and that he lawyered up and got the Times to pull the story. But obviously something else is going on here.

John McCain: against torture, before he was for it

The Straight-Talk Express goes into a tailspin as McCain tries to find a way to explain why he voted against the torture bill.

McCain and torture

The Senate will vote today on whether to make the Army Field Manual definition of torture apply to everyone, which pretty much shuts down Bush's waterboarding BS. John McCain has said before that the Army Field Manual rules should apply (see video below).

With his party's pro-torture right wing giving him fits, will he flip flop, will he reclaim the "straight-talk express" mojo and vote his conscience, or will he skip the vote?

Who said this?

What kind of cut-and-run coward would say this:

"On whose hands rest the blood of American troops? Ask yourself this question."

Or this:

"In my view (withdrawing troops as soon as possible) does not mean as soon as order is restored to ----. It does not mean as soon as democracy is flourishing in ----. It does not mean as soon as we have established a viable nation in ----. As soon as possible means as soon we can get out of ---- without losing any American lives."

Here's a clue, He's running for president.

And as that post from dailykos points out, using the logic of the 30 percenters, the sayer of that quote is responsible for 9/11.

McCain takes a leisurely stroll through Baghdad

Sure, Iraq is perfectly safe, when you wear a bulletproof vest, and have 100 soldiers and five helicopters protecting you.

Check out the video.

Update: The day after McCain's shopping excursion, 21 workers from this "safe" market were abducted and killed. Guess they didn't have 100 soldiers and five helicopters to guard them.

Sen. John McClueless

What planet does John McCain live on?:

"I don't know what the other options are because if we fail here I think it's going to be very difficult to maintain the support of the American people," he said. "And when the American people don't support a war ... then we aren't able to maintain a foreign endeavor."

I know it can be considered bad style for a politician to pay attention to the polls, but when every single poll shows the war in Iraq has lost the support of a wide majority of Americans, you can't just ignore it and pretend that they do.

McCain vs. McCain, Part II

John McCain thinks it is irrepsonsible for Congress to cut off funding for Iraq in order to bring the war to a close. Too bad he didn't think that way back in 1993:

Sen. John McCain - October 19,1993

There is no reason for the United States of America to remain in Somalia. The American people want them home, I believe the majority of Congress wants them home, and to set an artificial date of March 31 or even February 1, in my view, is not acceptable. The criteria should be to bring them home as rapidly and safely as possible, an evolution which I think could be completed in a matter of weeks.

Our continued military presence in Somalia allows another situation to arise which could then lead to the wounding, killing or capture of American fighting men and women. We should do all in our power to avoid that.

I listened carefully to the President's remarks at a news conference that he held earlier today. I heard nothing in his discussion of the issue that would persuade me that further U.S. military involvement in the area is necessary. In fact, his remarks have persuaded me more profoundly that we should leave and leave soon.

Dates certain, Mr. President, are not the criteria here. What is the criteria and what should be the criteria is our immediate, orderly withdrawal from Somalia. And if we do not do that and other Americans die, other Americans are wounded, other Americans are captured because we stay too long--longer than necessary--then I would say that the responsibilities for that lie with the Congress of the United States who did not exercise their authority under the Constitution of the United States and mandate that they be brought home quickly and safely as possible [...]

I, along with many others, will have an amendment that says exactly that. It does not give any date certain. It does not say anything about any other missions that the United States may need or feels it needs to carry out. It will say that we should get out as rapidly and orderly as possible.
